In May, after a crazy couple of years, Dan was hired for the 2017-2018 school year to work at Thomas Gregg Elementary on the near east side of Indianapolis. This school, formerly IPS school 15, has now become an innovation school. Dan is not the only new staff member there, and we are excited about this new turn of events. He formally quit working for Valle Vista Mental Health facility at the end of May, and has been working for my Uncle Jerry’s window cleaning business this summer.
It has been a summer of rest, of new schedules, and one summer class at Marian university for Dan. While I won’t go into detail right now about how Dan ended up on this path of becoming and elementary Art school teacher, I don’t want to miss remembering how crazy this year has been and thank GOD for how He’s been directing our path forward into the unknown.
Through a series of God ordained appointments with strangers and events that I would not have imagined, God has led us here…and tomorrow? Dan official starts working for the school! He will be doing staff training until the 31st of July, and then the kids start school. I’m thrilled for him, yet a bit apprehensive to what this year’s schedule (Dan in school at Marian to get his transition to teaching cert + teaching school full time) will look like for all of us.
Tonight I’m comforted by a verse I found while reading through Sally Lloyd Jones’ Thoughts to Make your Heart Sing.
“Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you.” -Deuteronomy 31:8 (NLT)
Neither Dan nor I know exactly what this year will look like. We have SOME idea, but considering this last year and the challenges we have faced together, we know there will be many more on the horizon. That may sound pessimistic, but for us, it is part of the exciting reality of a new adventure. There will be work-life balance to work out and work through. There will be nights of exhaustion, tons of new people, new situations, new students, and new ways that we will need to use to stay connected to one another. That is how adventure goes! There is newness, and though you may try to plan for part of it, it is largely unknown and you are unable to prepare.
But, God goes before us! He knows every detail of our tomorrows. He knows the path on which we are about to embark. He knows it all, and He is in complete control of it! How comforting is that?! No? 🙂
